Cook County Boards and Commissions
A Message From Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle
Our democracy is built on the idea of participatory government. One of the best ways you can participate is by serving on a County board or commission.
These bodies provide guidance and oversight to elected officials, agencies, and departments on a wide range of important issues that impact our communities.
I encourage you to explore the opportunities below, learn more about the boards and commissions that align with your interests and experience, and consider applying to serve.
It is up to you to take the first step toward advancing open, honest, and effective government.
Cook County Boards and Commissions
Cook County’s boards and commissions play a critical role in supporting transparent and effective governance. They provide oversight, guidance, and subject matter expertise across policy areas including health, housing, economic development, public safety, and infrastructure.
Cook County maintains numerous boards and commissions, each with distinct responsibilities, structures, and governing authorities. These entities are established through State statute, County ordinance, or other enabling actions. As a result, membership composition, requirements, and duties vary by body.
Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to review the requirements for each board or commission prior to applying. Many positions are subject to specific eligibility requirements, which may include professional experience, subject matter expertise, residency or geographic representation, or other criteria established by law. Certain roles may also include restrictions that could disqualify individuals from serving.
